Why do some people eat anything and not gain weight?

Eating Anything Staying Slim Secrets
Although overweight or obesity usually has to do with lifestyle habits, it is true that certain genetic factors can influence it.

Each person has a different metabolism. Some individuals gain weight easily, while others have never been on a diet, don't exercise much, and even give birth (in the case of women) while staying as slim as ever. What is the secret to staying in shape without too much effort?

Although factors such as age or pathologies such as hormonal problems may influence it, overweight or obesity usually have to do with a person's lifestyle habits, namely the diet and physical activity they engage in. However, studies have also confirmed that there may be a certain genetic predisposition to gaining weight.

Genetics

People with an accelerated metabolism tend to gain less weight, while those with a slower metabolism gain weight more easily. This is the part corresponding to genetic predisposition. But the truth is that other factors determine how healthy each individual's life is.

This is where the concept of health comes in. Leire Sandez, a nutritionist and dietitian, argues that weight is not a parameter of health. Nowadays, people are more focused on their physical appearance than on their own well-being. "There are many factors that influence weight, such as genetics, socio-economic factors, ethnicity, medication, environment, physical activity, menstrual cycle, life stage, nutrition education, microbiota, hydration, toxic habits, sleep, stress...," explains the specialist.

The expert advocates prioritizing health over physical appearance because often the obsession with being thin does not reflect the reality each individual lives. "A general assessment must be made: you are making progress with your healthy habits if you are becoming more toned, your clothes fit better, you accept your body and want to improve it, you move without any physical discomfort, you have more energy during the day, and you perform better," Leire adds.

After all, it is most advisable to maintain a lifestyle with healthy habits, including a balanced nutrition plan and regular exercise.

Then there's the issue of a sedentary lifestyle. Metabolism functions very differently when exercising, as it activates it. Therefore, in addition to genes, measures can be taken to have a faster metabolism that allows better control of weight gain.

Any person who takes care of their diet and stays fit may find themselves in a situation where they consume fattier foods and do not gain weight. But this is not by chance, as there is an effort that is not appreciated from the outside.
